Based on the growing mountain of information, it seems all but confirmed that AMD will formally announce the launch of their upcoming Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card on January 4th with a release scheduled for some (yet undisclosed) point around 1-2 weeks later. So, in other words, we’re getting a brand new entry-level focused GPU, and it’s about time too given how long it has been since the last one (from AMD or Nvidia for that matter!).
One key aspect of interest, however, has undoubtedly been placed on exactly what kind of specifications we could expect to see from it. And following a report via Videocardz, it seems that, albeit briefly, Lenovo may have accidentally cracked the metaphorical door open a little!
AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT
Now, given that the 6500 XT hasn’t even yet officially been confirmed, it’s not exactly surprising to see that Lenovo promptly removed the listing shortly after its discovery. However, a number of key details surrounding the new graphics card can clearly be seen within it. Firstly, we see more information suggesting that this GPU will be hitting the market with a relatively meager 4GB of VRAM.
Secondly, though, and this one is definitely interesting, the 6500 XT will only feature 2 display outputs (1 x HDMI 2.1 and 1 X DP 1.4a). And in this particular regard, this would see it become one of the most potentially limited graphics cards AMD has released for years. Do you really need more than two? Well, for the vast majority of consumers no. One is often more than enough. For some though, this will definitely be a problematic issue.
VRAM – Too Limited for its Own Good?
As we noted earlier this month, we still have to wonder whether AMD’s apparent ‘anti-mining’ tactics with the Radeon RX 6500 XT will work or backfire. The idea is that with it only featuring 4GB, this will render the GPU practically useless (and by proxy unattractive) for cryptocurrency mining. Largely because Ethereum generally requires a 6GB minimum. So, on the plus side, there might be significantly more 6500 XT’s available to buy than anything else from the current Radeon 6000 series.
