Earlier this week, information appeared online suggesting that AMD was planning the launch (and potential release) of four new Ryzen AMD4 processors before the end of this month. Interesting stuff for sure and not merely for the fact that this was set to include their new 5800X3D CPU, but more so the fact that with AM4 set to be effectively phased out later this year with the launch of their new Ryzen 6000 AM5 platform, it seemed that the current generation was being given one last hurrah!
Following a report via WCCFTech, however, new information has appeared online suggesting that for as substantial as ‘four new CPUs’ was, the truth might be notably more expansive than that. Put simply, AMD may be set to launch ten (not a typo) new AM4 Ryzen processors next month!
AMD to Launch 10 New Ryzen Desktop Processors Next Month?!
According to the report, AMD is apparently rather keen to give the AM4 platform one last and significant push before the launch of their Ryzen 6000 AM5 CPUs later this year. A move which, in fairness, is probably not a bad idea given how Intel’s Alder Lake-S series, while impressive, hasn’t exactly seen a huge adoption rate since its release last November even despite it marking the debut of the DDR5 memory platform.
So, presuming that the source is accurate, what processors can we expect? Well, although we will list them below, basically think of every whole number in the Ryzen 5000 series not yet occupied, and you’ll probably find it here. Surprisingly though, even the 4000-series (largely restricted to APU release on desktop) also gets a mention:
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D – 20th April (Availability)
AMD Ryzen 5700X/5600/5500/4600G/4500/4100 – 4th April (Availability)
AMD Ryzen 5700/5100/4700 – April (Availability)
What Do We Think?
We’ll freely concede that although information on new Ryzen CPUs has pointed to a number of new launches to be made before the end of this month (for a subsequent April release), the previous figure of 4 did sound a little more realistic than 10. Additionally, and although we do not wish to cause offence, the source of this new information does have a bit of a sketchy history in terms of overall accuracy. – If AMD is, however, planning the launch of 10 new Ryzen AM4 desktop processors, seemingly within the next 3-6 weeks, it would appear that the AM4 platform is not just getting a last hurrah! It’s throwing a huge party with cake and balloons with all AM4 motherboard owners invited to check out these 10 new models!
